Hi all
This is my first post to the FARQUHAR mailing list using this new service.
The Studio Sixty Seven reception was held last Wednesday with what was a rather disappointing turnout. Possibly the dreadful weather kept everyone home (and forced me to add an additional two hours traveling time to my trip down when they closed the Desert Rd). I had five paintings included in the group show which are now listed on the website
These paintings were a slight change in direction for me with a greater emphasis placed on colour. Two paintings in particular stood out for me. The deep burgandy of 'Sonority' with insets of the softest pale green/yellow was particularly adventurous. To achieve the great intensity of the burgandy colour required in excess of 150 layers of transparent colour. At times I even wondered to myself if I was ever going to get the required intensity. Sadly this painting has proven extremely difficult to photograph so the depth and intensity of colour is not as evident in the photograph as it is in reality, yet as you know from experience this applies to most of my paintings because of the significant number of layers.
The other key painting was 'Orson Fader'. This painting had three inset colours which was a first for me. The painting began a deep blue, moved to a forest green, advanced to a burnt orange and finally finished with a soft yellow ochre with hints of soft yellow/green. This painting is far more subtle than first appears. There are numerous layers and the reading shifts inward and outward throughout the work. From a personal level this is a rather exciting painting.
The full images and details can be viewed in the recent paintings
while the images of the Studio Sixty Seven installation can be viewed in the installations.
Until the next update. All the best
Andrew
